Kinky Friedman was born with multi talents like singing, writing and politics. He was born on 1st November 1944 in America and his style of living was completely unique. He also fought elections for the Governor’s office and he received a total of 12.6 % votes. Friedman was positioned at fourth position in the race of six persons.
History of Friedman
Friedman was basically an American and his native place was Chicago but after some time his family moved on to Texas where he started showing interests in chess and music. Surprisingly he was the first one who challenged the US chess champion Samuel Reshevsky. Friedman completed his graduation at Texas in 1966 with Psychology as his major subject.
A famous singer named Chinga Chavin gave him a nick name “Kinky “due to his beautiful curly hair. Friedman created his very first band while a student in the Texas University. The names of the band members are quiet comical which his father also opposes. The names are like Little Jewford, Wichita Culpepper, Rainbow Colors, Snakebite Jacobs, Big Nig, Sky Cap and Panama Red. He got his first break in 1973 when Commander Cody contacted the Vanguard music on the behalf of Friedman.
Friedman as Writer
In 1980s Friedman transformed his musical career into a writing career and he put all his creativity of music in writing. He published two books which gained much hype at that time. He also mentioned his friend as a character in the book who was a private investigator. So, maximum part of this book is based on real stories of people. He was also a regular columnist for Texas Monthly Magazine but he was suspended due to elections.
Friedman as Politician
In the year 2004, Friedman fought for Governor Elections and was defeated with great margin but he never gave up. He again stood for Governor Election by following the footsteps of previous Governors. He took up the strategy of entertaining campaign and he made some effective slogans like “How hard it could be” and “Why the hell not?” After the powerful and colourful campaign Friedman was again defeated with large margins. He got only 13 % votes from the people of Texas.
Issues that he Raised
Friedman raised the issues of pay hikes of teachers so that the education level in Texas could go higher. He also supported other fuel resources such as biodiesel and wind. Friedman was also an anti immigrant and so he wanted to increase the number of troops present at the border. He also wanted to raise funds to completely ban the entry of illegal immigrants in Texas and whole of America. Kinky also opposed the abortion practice and he also supported Gay marriage.
So, Kinky Friedman was a person with multi talents like singing, writing and politics. He was like a role model for several people in Texas. He also possessed respectable position among the people of Texas. There were several music bands and albums created by Friedman and some of them were big hit. He published some interesting novels which people really liked.
