Temperance Daesee Brennan is a fictional detective character and forensic anthropologist of the crime novel series created by Kathy Reichs. Temperance Brennan is the protagonist who was introduced in Reichs’ first novel, Déjà Dead, published in the year 1997. The TV Show Bones ran for 12 seasons from 2005 until 2017 on Fox.
As a forensic anthropologist, Temperance has a busy schedule altogether. She works at two places, namely, North Carolina and Montreal. In Montreal, she works the Laboratoire des Sciences Judiciaires et de Médecine Légale for the province of Quebec.
Tempe Brennan has divorced from earlier marriage, and she has a beautiful daughter by the name of Katy. Over the years, she has developed extreme fondness for Detective Andrew Ryan, whom she meets constantly for longer durations. Brennan is also fond of animals, and this is seen on many occasions. She has a fabulous cat called Birdie; a bird called Charlie; and a smart and active cadaver dog named Boyd.
Temperance is eloquent in French language, and she is a reformed alcoholist, who’d shun the company of alcohol a long back. Temperance Daesee Brennan has common name shared with a protagonist from another American television series, and the character is not served from Reichs’ books. In the American television series, Emily Deschanel plays the role of Temperance Brennan.
Despite having detailed knowledge of anthropology as the subject, Brennan is least aware about the pop culture and the workers who are her colleagues at work. She is often teased by her coworker Booth on this account. What’s more, Brennan doesn’t have good idea about the social skills, and finds great trouble to comprehend and understand the real meaning hidden behind the jokes and sarcasm.
On one of the occasions, someone makes a reference to the popular culture trends, and she simply expresses her opinion that “I don’t know what that means.” Further, there are many other instances through the series where she is not able to understand the allusions made to culture and other social characteristics.
Brennan is working at the Jeffersonian Institution in Washington D.C. and together with her partner, Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz), she solves many critical cases. Seeley Booth calls her by a funny nick name, “Bones.”
The duo seems to have an understanding and affable professional relationship, though they have schisms in their personalities, besides the sexual tensions which seem to be evident. As the series continues to move on, both, Brennan and Booth spend more and more time outside the work, dating, going out for lunch and dinner together.
On different occasions, both of them share their past and present times and have long standing intimate conversations. Booth goes all the way to teach Brennan Ice Skating, besides, travelling with her to as far as China and England. A part of Temperance Brennan’s family life is revealed in first season finale. Her birth name is Joy Keenan, and she was the daughter of bam robber parents, who lived life in disguise most of the times due to very nature of their role. Ultimately it is Brennan who finds the remains of her mother in Jeffersonian.
